‘Congenial atmosphere for polls exists in Dhaka’

Staff Correspondent: Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia has said that a congenial atmosphere for election exists in Dhaka. Several of the parties are raising allegations to keep Election Commission (EC), law enforcement agencies and administration under pressure.
DMP commissioner came up with the observation after visiting catholic church in the capital’s Banani on the occasion of Christmas Day on Tuesday.
He said, “Police are servants of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. They work for people and the country. The parliamentary election will be held in festive mood amid security and coordinating steps in compliance with the instructions of EC. Measures have been taken for people to return home with any harassment after casting their votes.”
“A congenial atmosphere for polls exists in the metropolitan area. All candidates are campaigning for votes through enthusiasm. Law enforcement agencies, armed forces, judicial magistrates and electoral inquiry teams are working tirelessly,” he added.
In reply to a query that some candidates alleged that they were bared to campaign, DMP commissioner said, “All the activities are running in line with the country’s constitution. There may be allegations to keep EC and administration under pressure.”
He also urged people to remain alerts again propagandas and rumours on social media.
