Courageous step to establish peace

North Korea and South Korea are the hostile two countries in Asia. There was a tension between the two countries since more than six decades.

The tension had increased in recent time due to continuous nuclear missile tests by North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. Side by side the nuclear missile tests, the supreme leader of North Korea also threatened United State of America. In reply, U.S President Donald Trump also threatened North Korea. As a result, an altercation has started between North Korean leader and US President which raised tension more tension in that region.

In this context, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in joined in a historical meeting on last Friday (April 27). They agreed to establish peace avoiding conflict in Korean Peninsula. North Korean leader stepped into the land of South Korea for the very first time crossing the line that has divided the Korean Peninsula for 65 years. The step sows the seeds of peace in the border which made the hopeful. It was assumed that the hostility between the two countries will be ended through the meeting.

The United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres termed the peace initiative of the two Korean countries as "truly historic summit". He said, "The people were waiting for such good news for a long time." The leaders of USA, China, Russia, Japan and other countries expressed satisfaction. President Trump termed the peace move as a good news. We also welcome the two Korean leaders.

After the joint meeting, conflicting military activities in two Koreas had been announced. In the joint statement -the two Koreas agree to fully implement all existing agreements and declarations adopted so far between the two sides. They agree to hold dialogue and negotiations in various fields including high-level talks, take active measures to implement summit agreement. They agree to establish joint liaison office with resident representatives of both sides in the Kaesong industrial zone on their border. They agree to encourage more active cooperation, exchanges, visits, and contacts at all levels.

However, earlier North Korea President Kim Jong-Un announced to leave nuclear weapons program in his country. North Korea's attempt to create nuclear weapons and missiles created a fear of direct war with USA. President Trump directly threatened to attack North Korea. To avoid war, Trump requested China to use its influence to keep North Korea out of its nuclear ambition.

On the other hand, North Korean President assured Chinese leaders for peace during his visit to China. Later, Kim had announced the suspension of all types of missile and nuclear tests. Then, the meeting between top leaders of the two countries has finalized.

A meeting between Kim Jong-Un and US President Donald Trump is scheduled to hold in next month. It is expected that avoiding war frenzy, the peace steps will play a positive role to establish regional and global peace.

The role of incumbent president of South Korea Moon Jae-in is praise worthy. Last year, the South Korean President in his election campaign speech said that relationship development with North Korea even reunite will be his main target. 

He was not deviated from his target although there was criticism from his countrymen and a portion of politicians. However, there was an interest from North Korea side over developing relationship. It is thought that Kim Yo-Jong, the sister of North Korea President had a role behind this. Kim Yo-Jong herself visited South Korea during Winter Olympic along with representatives in February. The smiling face of her with South Korean leader spread the hope of light. Later, she also accompanied her brother during this historical tour.

Forgetting long hostile relation, the meeting between these two Korean leaders would be teachable for other regions of the globe. The hope among international community following the move in Korean Peninsula started a wind peace. All kinds of problems can be solved through discussion. The meeting of the two leaders can be termed as a courageous step to establish peace. The people of the world hope that the agreement between the two Korean leaders will play great role in world peace.
