Chief Election Commissioner AKM Nurul Huda
Staff Correspondent: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AKM Nurul Huda said, "BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, who was convicted and jailed for five years in a graft case, cannot take part in the next general election in the present context."
She can run the election if the Supreme Court (SC) permit her to contest the election. But I want Khaleda Zia participates in the election, the CEC said.
Nurul Huda came up with the remarks while talking to reporters after a courtesy call on Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain at his SC office on Monday.
On February 8, a special court convicted Khaleda Zia and sentenced her to five years' rigorous imprisonment in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case, dealing a severe blow to BNP ahead of the upcoming national elections.
