Ctg water-logging removal project begins

Staff Correspondent, Chattogram: Chattogram water-logging removal project, the much-talked about mega project of the Chattogram port city, began on Saturday morning.
The project work began formally through cleaning of a drain in no. 2 gate area of Panchlaish Thana in the port city.
Abdus Salam, Chairman of Chattogram Development Authority (CDA), and officials of Bangladesh Army were present at that time.
Two contractors for the mega project styled 'canal re-excavation, extension, renovation and development to solve water logging in Chattogram city' involving Tk 5,616 crore have been appointed.
The contractors are Spectra Limited and Karim Group. Two more contractors will be appointed for the purpose very soon.
Abdus Salam said after cleaning of all drains of 21 wards of the city, the contractors will begin the cleaning of 16 canals.
A total of 16 canals, among 36 canals will be re-excavated in the first phase. The 16 canals are as follows; Chaktai Khal, Birza Khal, Rajakhali, Mirza, Hijra, Mohesh, Mariam Bibi Khal, Khondakia, Kalabagicha, and Baromasi Khal.
CDA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Bangladesh Army to conduct the mega project on April 9.
