DB inspector murder: Accused’s wife gives statement

Staff Correspondent: Tania Begum, wife of the accused Hassan Mahmud of the murder case of DB Inspector Md Jalal Uddin, gave statement as a witness in the incident under the section 164 of criminal procedure.

Inspector Wahiduzzaman, Investigation Officer (IO) of the case, filed a petition to a Dhaka court on Thursday.

Later, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Khurshid Alam recorded Tania’s statement.

Tania said in her statement, “Hassan’s friend Manik came home on the night the incident happened. They were gossiping on the roof-top of the second floor. Around 11:30pm, I heard sound of two bullets. Then, I ran on the roof and found firearms at the hands of my husband Hassan. Just after shooting, Hassan and his friend Manik fled the scene by the sunset of a neighbouring building.

Earlier, the court fixed May 6 to submit report in the case, after the case statement reached the court on Thursday.

On March 19, Jalal was shot in the head when he went to raid a three-storey house (House: 105/A/1) of Pirerbag of the capital near Alimuddin School where criminals were hiding.

Duty doctors declared him when he was taken to the Square Hospitals of West Panthapath area in the capital.
