Dangal actress Zaira alleges molestation on flight

Zaira Wasim

Entertainment Desk: Dangal actress Zaira Wasim on Sunday alleged that she was harassed mid-air on an Air Vistara flight between Delhi and Mumbai on Saturday and shared her ordeal on a social networking site.

Vistara has ordered an inquiry into the issue and the DGCA is also looking into the issue.

The 17-year-old actress has alleged that a man sitting behind her on flight tried to molest her. On her instagram account, she first posted a picture of the man's foot, which was clearly on her seat, then what followed was a series of posts narrating the mortifying experience.

According to Zaira's allegation, the man was caressing her neck while she was asleep. She tried to record what the man was doing, but failed due to dim lights.

Vistara was quick to apologise on the issue and said that a detailed investigation is being carried out on the issue.

"We are aware of the incident reported by Ms. Zaira Wasim on board our flight UK981 last night from Delhi to Mumbai. We are carrying out a detailed investigation of the incident which apparently involved a male passenger on the flight. We are talking to our crew who were serving Ms. Wasim to understand the incident at greater length, and reaching out to fellow passengers as well," said Sanjiv Kapoor, chief strategy and commercial officer, Vistara.

"We will support Ms. Wasim in every way required and also if she decides to report the matter to the police. It appears crew only became aware of something amiss during final descent when they were seated for landing. Further details will come from the investigation, which is currently ongoing in full force. We apologise for what she experienced and we have zero tolerance for such behaviour," Kapoor added.

Airline sources, who did not want to be identified, said that the airline crew approached Wasim after the flight landed and requested her to file a complaint.

"The crew could not react immediately because the flight was landing and the crew was in a seating position. Upon landing, the crew approached her... They also went out to look for her at the terminal, where the crew found her mother and requested her to file a complaint. They, however, did not file a complaint then," sources said.
