Death upheld for five in Monu Haji murder case

Staff Correspondent: The High Court (HC) has upheld death sentence for five people including top terror Shahadat in the murder case of Monir Uddin Monu alias Monu Haji, vice-president of Mirpur ward no. 12 Swechchasebak League unit.

The bench of Justice Bhabani Prasad Singh and Justice Mustafa Zaman passed the order on Thursday.

The court also commuted death sentence for two convicts to life-term imprisonment.

Advocate S M Rezaul Karim and Sorowar Hosain moved for the convicts in the court while Deputy Attorney General Bashir Ahmed and Assistant Attorney General Nirmol Kumar Das represented the state.

Earlier on March 30, 2015, the trial court sentenced seven accused to death sentence and a woman accused to life-term imprisonment in the case.
