Staff Correspondent: A court here on Tuesday sent two drivers and two helpers to jail in a case filed over the killing of two students of Shaheed Ramiz Uddin School and College in a road accident on Airport Road in the city.
Those sent to jail are ‘Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan’ bus drivers Sohagh Ali and Mohammad Zubayer, and two helpers – Enayet Hossain and Mohammad Ripon.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate HM Toaha passed the order when Riyad Ahmed, sub-inspector (SI) of Cantonment Police Station and also the investigation officer of the case, produced them before the court seeking a 10-day remand prayer.
The court, however, fixed August 6 for hearing the remand petition.
Earlier, on Monday, members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested the two drivers and two helpers from different parts of the capital in connection with Sunday’s bus accident that left the two college students dead.
Diya Khanam Mim and Abdul Karim Rajib, students of the college section of Shaheed Ramiz Uddin School and College, were killed as a bus ploughed through some students in front of Kurmitola General Hospital on Airport Road on Sunday (July 29).
A case was filed over the accident on Sunday night.
Angered by the incident, students went on a rampage vandalising whatever buses they found before them. They have been carrying on their agitations since then.
