Senior Correspondent: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said it is unfortunate not provide advanced treatment to the party chairperson Khaleda Zia in jail after a request to Home Ministry.
He said, “We frequently urged the government to arrange advanced treatment for BNP chief Khaleda Zia in jail. She needs check up and treatment at a specialised hospital like the United Hospital. She needs MRI which is not available at anywhere except the United Hospital.”
The BNP stalwart on Wednesday came up with the statement while speaking at a human chain programme in front of the party’s Nayapaltan central office to force the government to release Khaleda Zia.
Fakhrul said, “Her (Khaleda) personal physicians went there several times for her treatment. But they were denied every time. A top delegation of our party also met Home Minister seeking permission for her treatment by her personal physicians. But there is no response in this regard. It is very much unfortunate not to provide her better treatment even after so much requests.”
“We know the government has kept our chairperson in jail only to resist its fall and our movement for restoration of democracy,” the BNP leader said.
Fakhrul further said, “Now it is our duty to remain united and carry out the movement to have our chairperson freed from jail. We must free her from jail as it is now our only goal. We will continue our peaceful movement unitl the chairperson is released from jail.”
