Dhaka Bar Association election underway

Staff Correspondent: The voting in Dhaka Bar Association (DBA) election 2018-19 has begun at lawyers' association auditorium of Dhaka Bar in the capital.

The casting of votes started at 9:00am on Tuesday and will continue till 5:00pm with a one-hour break for lunch.

Some 55 candidates are vying for 27 posts of Dhaka Bar.

Two panels belonging to ruling Awami League backed Blue Panel and BNP-Jamaat-backed White Panel are contesting the election.

Chief election commissioner of the DBA Khandaker Abdul Mannan said 16,129 voters of 22,025 members will cast their votes in the election.

The aspirants from White panel are - Abdur Rahman Hawlader-president, Mizanur Rahman Mamun -general secretary, Kazi Shahanara Yasmin-senior vice president,  Md Ruhul Amin-vice president, Arifur Rahman Choudhury-treasurer, Mustafizur Rahman Talukhder Dipu -senior assistant general secretary, Kamal Hossain Patwary-assistant general secretary, Moniruzzaman Monir-library secretary, Taslima Akhter Rita-cultural secretary, Abdur Rashid -office secretary, Humayun Kabir Khandaker-social welfare secretary, Sadia Afrin Shilpi-sports secretary and others.

Candidates from Blue Panel are Golam Mostafa Khan-president, Hossain Ali Khan Hasan, AR Mizanur Rahman-vice president, Abdus Salam Dewan-senior vice president, Lutfor Rahman Azad-treasurer, Nihar Hossain Faruk--senior assistant general secretary, Showkat Ullah Bhuiyan Chotton-assistant general secretary, ABM Iftekharul Haque -library secretary, Shahnaz Begum Shireen - cultural secretary, Zulfikar Ali Haider-office secretary, ABM Khairul Islam Liton-social welfare secretary, Khalilur Rahman Khalil-sports secretary and others.
