Disappearance of Coal: ACC grills 8 more accused

Staff Correspondent: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has started quizzing eight more accused in a case filed over the disappearance of a vast amount of coal from the Barapukuria Coal Mine in Dinajpur.
ACC deputy director Shamsul Alam began the interrogation around 9:00am on Wednesday.
Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya, public relations officer (PRO) of ACC confirmed the matter to risingbd.com.
The Pretrobangla officials who are facing the interrogation are- Habib Uddin Ahmed, former managing director of Barapukuria Coal Mining Company Ltd (BCMCL), Abul Kashem Prodhania and Mosharaf Hossain, former general manager (exploration) and secretary of the company, Masudur Rahman Hawladar, director general (general service), Ashok Kumar Halda, Manager (production management), Arifur Rahman, Manager (maintenance and operation), Jahidul Islam, Manager (design, construction and maintenance) and Ekramul Haque, deputy manager (safety management).
Besides, the watchdog is scheduled to interrogate nine more officials on August 30.
Earlier, ACC asked the immigration authorities to stop 21 officials of Petro Bangla including 19 accused from leaving Bangladesh while it investigates alleged misappropriation of the mineral resource.
On July 24, BCMCL director general (administration) Mohammad Anisur Rahman filed a case with Parbatipur police station in Dinajpur. Later, the case was later transferred to the ACC for investigation. According to the official investigation, more than 142,000 tons of coal is missing from Barapukuria.
