Domingo appointed as coach of Tigers

Sports Correspondent: Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed former South Africa coach Russell Domingo as the head coach of the Tigers.

BCB announced this on Saturday.

Domingo will start his stint with the Bangladesh team from August 21.

“We have decided to pick Russell as he will be available. There were other candidates but we wanted someone who could be available for us and certainly he has got the experience,” said BCB President Nazmul Hasan.

The post of the Bangladesh national team's head coach had been vacant since the board parted ways with Steve Rhodes after the disappointing World Cup.

Domingo took over the role of head coach for South Africa’s T20 side in 2012 and the Tests and ODIs in 2013.

He held that position till 2017, when he took over as coach of South Africa A and Otis Gibson replaced him as national team head coach.

BCB completed their search through a last batch of teleconferences with the shortlisted candidates on Wednesday.
