Dowry-free mass wedding held in Sylhet

Staff Correspondent, Sylhet: A dowry-free mass wedding was held at Rautgram Madaninagar of the district’s Kanaighat upazila on Saturday.

The wedding programme was held at the home of Borochotul UP Chairman Mawlana Abul Hossain Chotuli. At least twenty couple tied the knot spontaneously.

Islahul Muslimin Council Bangladesh, an Islamic organisation, arranged the wedding ceremony. The organisation has been arranging such programme for last three years.

Islahul Muslimin usually arranged the mass weeding for the pairs who are actually from insolvent families to afford the expense of marriage ceremony. The organisation completed marriage for 80 couples so far.

The organisation distributed a sewing machine, a goat and goods necessary for a new family among each of the couples.

All the guests along with the couples were served hospitality during the marriage ceremony.

Kanaighat upazila chairman Abdul Mumin Chowdhury, Senior ASP (Kanaighat circle) Abdul Karim, Freedom Fighter Aftab Uddin among others attended the mass wedding ceremony.
