‘Drug trader’ killed in Cumilla ‘gunfight’

Cumilla Correspondent: A suspected drug peddler named Saddam Hossain was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police in the district early Saturday.


The gunfight took place around 2. 30am at Koraiban under Ujirpur union of Chauddagram upazila.

The deceased was the son of Abul Hashem at Bhatbari under Ujirpur union. Police claimed that Saddam was accused in 12 drug-related cases.

Police also recovered a pipe gun and 200 bottles of Phensidyl from the spot.
Abul Faisal, officer-in-charge of Chauddagram Police Station, said tipped off that a gang of drug traders gathered in the area, a team of police conducted the drive.

Sensing the presence of police, the gang reportedly fired shots at the police, forcing the law enforcers to retaliate in ‘self-defence’ which led to the gun battle, the OC said.
Bullet-hit Saddam was taken to a hospital where doctors declared him dead.
