Drug trader killed in Cumilla gunfight

Cumilla Correspondent: A drug dealer was killed in a “gunfight” with police in Monagram area under sadar upazila in Cumilla on Wednesday night.

The deceased was identified as Saiful Islam, 22, son of Jahangir Alam, hailed from Jorameher village of sadar upazila.

Three police men were also injured during the gun battle.

Confirming the matter, District DB police Officer-in-charge Nasir Uddin Mridha, tipped-off, a team of detectives conducted a drive in the area around 11:15pm. Meanwhile, sensing presence of the law enforcers, Saiful’s cohorts opened fire on police, prompting them to retaliate.

At one stage, Saiful sustained bullet injuries while the others managed to escape capture. Later, he was taken to Cumilla Medical College and Hospital where on duty doctors declared him dead around 12:00am.
