‘Drug trader’ killed in Cumilla ‘gunfight’

Cumilla Correspondent: A suspected drug trader was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Bibirbazar border in Sadar upazila early Friday.

The deceased was identified as Prashanto Kumar Das, 29, son of Badal Chandra Das of Mogoltuli in the city.

Commanding Officer of BGB-10 Lieutenant Colonel Abu Mohammad Mohiuddin said tipped off, a team of BGB-10 conducted a drive in Mogoltuli area. Sensing presence of the border guards, the associates of Prashanto opened fire on the BGB men, forcing them to fire back that triggered a ‘gunfight’.

At one stage, Prashanto was caught in the line of fire and sustained bullet injures.

He was taken to Cumilla Medical College and Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.

They recovered 4385 Yaba tablets and 30 bottles of phensidyl from the spot.
