Drug trader killed in Munshiganj gunfight

Munshiganj Correspondent: A suspected drug trader also top terror was killed in a gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Sreenagar of the district on Sunday morning.

The deceased was identified as Sohrab Hossain, 35, son of Yunus Bepari of Rudrapara village in Ragra union of Srinagar upazila.

Assistant Superintendent Mohitul Islam, company commander of RAB-11 said that acting on tip-off that a gang of criminals was selling drugs in the area, a team of the elite force conducted a drive in Chhatrobhog area of Baghra union around 4:45 am.

Sensing the presence of elite force, the gang members opened fire on them, prompting them to fire back, triggering the gunfight, leaving Sohrab bullet injured. Later, he was taken to upazila health complex where duty doctor declared him dead.

Two RAB members were also injured and the elite force members recovered a foreign pistol, a bullet, 600 Yaba tablets and cash Tk 10,500.

Sohrab was wanted in 13 cases including arms, robbery and attempt to murder case, Mohitul Islam said.
