‘Drug trader’ killed in Teknaf ‘gunfight’

Cox’s Bazar Correspondent: A suspected drug trader was killed in a ‘gunfight’ between police and a gang of drag traders in the district early Friday.

The gunfight took place in Moulvipara area of Teknaf sadar union.

The deceased was identified as Jalal Yusuf Bahadur.

Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Taknaf Model Police Station, said police picked up Yusuf on Thursday afternoon. Following Yusuf’s statement, a team of police took him to the area to recover firearms.

Sensing the presence of police, Yusuf’s cohorts opened fire at policemen, forcing them to retaliate. During the gunfight Yusuf received bullet injury, and he was immediately taken to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex where duty doctors declared him dead.

Police recovered 30,000 yaba tablets, 10 guns, one pistol and 24 rounds of bullets from the spot.
