Drug trader killed in Teknaf gunfight

Cox’s Bazar Correspondent: A suspected drug trader was killed and three policemen injured in a gunfight with police in Habirchhora hilly area in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar early Saturday. 

Deceased was identified as Mohammad Hossain, 28, son of Nabi Hossain, hailed from Baharchara area of Teknaf Sadar upazila.

Police said that Mohammad Hossain was a listed drug trader and an accused in four cases including robbery.

Confirming the matter, Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Teknaf police station said, on information about the presence of drug traders in the area, a team of police conducted a drive early Saturday.

Meanwhile, sensing the presence of the law enforcement, the drug traders opened fire, forcing them to fire back that triggered the gunfight, he said.

A total of 2000 yaba pills, three locally made fire arms, and 12 bullets were seized from the spot.
