Eid journey may be safe for everyone

Eid-ul-Fitr, one of the biggest religious festivals for the Muslims, will be celebrated in the country on 26 June (Monday) or June 27 (Tuesday) subject to the sighting of the Shawwal moon.

Dhaka city dwellers started leaving the city on Thursday afternoon for their respective village homes to celebrate Eid with their near and dear ones.

However, holidaymakers are suffering a lot due to ticket collection in long queue, traffic congestion, excessive fare, etc.

According to the media reports, some highways are in bad condition. Traffic congestion is being created at various points from Tongi to Joydevpur Chowrasta and from Mirzapur to Elenga of the Dhaka-Tangail highway. Upgradation of the highway in four lanes is in progress slowly. However, on the occasion of the Eid, the Roads and Highways Department has directed to stop the work of upgrading four lanes.

Though the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway has been upgraded to four lanes, passengers from this route are suffering from traffic congestions from Tongi to Chandna Chowrasta.
On the Dhaka-Chittagong highway, traffic congestion is created from Sanarpar in Sidderganj almost everyday. As a result, people are suffering a lot.

Indeed, traffic congestion has become a major cause of the suffering of people in every Eid. It is important to look at these special points of highways to solve the sufferings of the passengers. It is necessary to take an initiative to solve the traffic congestion as far as possible.

In the past people experienced that the time passed on the roads and they did not attend Eid Jamaat in time. We expect such a situation does not repeat again, so the concerned authorities will have to pay attention.

Another problem is road accident.  Additional traffic movement increases more accidents. In this regard, everyone especially the drivers should be more careful.

We expect the train and launch passengers will travel safely. Earlier, the schedule of Eid trains was disrupted. The passengers have to suffer a lot. Although there are some problems, most of the trains, buses, launches have started their trip as per schedule this year. Special measures must be taken so that launches can avoid accidents and cannot take extra passengers.

Of course, it is not possible to eliminate all the problems existing on the roads, railways and waterways. Nevertheless, all the authorities concerned should take immediate steps to reduce sufferings of the people or bring them to the minimum level.

After the Eid celebration with families, we hope that everyone will return safely to Dhaka.
