England beat Bangladesh by 8 wickets

Sports Desk: England beat Bangladesh by eight wickets in the opening game of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 at the Kennington Oval, London on Thursday.

Set a 306-run target, England lost two wickets and overhauled the target with 16 deliveries to spare.

English batsman Joe Root remained unbeaten on 133 – his best ODI score – and he was ably assisted by skipper Eoin Morgan’s unbeaten 75.

Earlier, a century from Bangladesh’s Tamim Iqbal and a Mushfiqur Rahim fifty put Bangladesh a great target. Tamim scored 128 off 142 balls.

English bowler LE Plunkett took four Bangladesh wickets while BA Stokes and JT Ball got one wicket each.

JE Root got Player of the match award for his outstanding performance.
