Senior Correspondent: The government has changed the English spellings of the country’s five districts. The districts are Chittagong, Comilla, Barisal, Jessore and Bogra.
The decision came at a meeting of the National Implementation Committee on Administrative Reforms (Nicar) held at the Prime Minister's Office in the city on Monday.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the meeting.
After the meeting, Cabinet Division Secretary (Coordination & Reforms) NM Ziaul Alam said Nicar took the decision to change the spellings of Chittagong, Comilla, Barisal, Jessore and Bogra to remove the existing inconsistency with their Bangla spellings.
According to the proposal, Ziaul Alam said, the spellings of Chittagong, Comilla, Barisal, Jessore and Bogra have been changed as Chattagram, Cumilla, Barishal, Jashore and Bogura respectively.
