FBCCI to assist govt in developing haor regions

Economic Correspondent: Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) President Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin said, "FBCCI will work for the development of haor areas and provide all sorts of cooperation to the government in facing disasters in the areas."

The FBCCI president made the announcement while addressing a discussion titled 'Business Development and Policy of Haor Region' at the conference room of the federation on Saturday noon.

"The concerned agencies of the government, Water Development Board and the ministries concerned will have to come forward to implement some development works-- from dredging to construction of embankment in the areas-- for the development of the haor regions. The FBCCI will take the efforts forward staying beside the government," Shafiul Islam said.

He said there are some areas in the haor regions where it takes three days to reach. And FBCCI will stand beside the government to take forward the initiatives.

Projecting a statistics of fish production, Shafiul Islam said, "Bangladesh ranked fourth among the world's other countries in producing vegetables and fresh water fish. So, we have to think about the development of haor regions."

PKSF managing director Abdul Karim, Haor and Char Development Institute director Dr Abdur Rahman Sarkar, BADC Planning Division head Ferdous Rahman and FBCCI directors attended the programme among others.
