Budget 17-18: Products that will see price drop

Economic Correspondent: Finance Minister AMA Muhith has proposed some changes to duties on different essential commodities which may result in decrease in their prices.

The minister came up with the proposal while he was addressing his budget speech of the coming fiscal year 2017-18 in Parliament on Thursday.

While placing the proposed Tk 4,00,266-crore national budget for 2017-18 fiscal year, Muhith said they prepared customs-related proposals considering different aspects, including current socio-economic scenario, protection of domestic industries, increased industrial investment and revenue collection.

The finance minister mentioned names of some products whose prices will go down. The products are-- LP gas cylinder (capacity below 5000 litres), battery, solar panel (photovoltaic cell), hybrid vehicle, WiFi/Wimax lan card, locally assembled or manufactured cellular phone, laptop, pad and tablet computers, petroleum jelly, poultry and dairy food, locally made motorcycle, videoconference device, LED lamps and bulbs, spare parts of diesel engine, ball bearings, machinery parts, gear boxes, brakes and servo brakes, and fire resistant door, etc.
