Five held with foreign currencies at Benapole

Staff Correspondent, Jessore: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel detained five people, including two women, along with huge numbers of foreign currencies from Benapole Land Port on Friday.

The detainees are- Nazrul Islam, Jewel Khan, Shahidur Rahman, Shahida Begum and Yeasmin Aktar.

Sources said the law enforcers detained after they entered Bangladesh crossing Indian border this noon.

Jessore 49 BGB Assistant Director Imamul Haque said that acting on a tip-off, a BGB team led by Subedar Abdul Wahab stopped the five persons. Later, searching their bags and bodies, the law enforcers found the currencies.

The currencies include Indian Rupee 35,20,580, US dollar 200 and Canadian Dollar 20,700 equivalent to Tk 60 lakh.

The detainees were handed over to Benapole Land port police station after filing a case.
