‘Fund behind militancy also comes from abroad’

Staff Correspondent: Additional Commissioner Monirul Islam of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said it is still not possible to wholly trace the financers behind militancy but claimed that the finance is supplied to the militancy not only from the local source but also from abroad.

Monirul came up with the opinion while talking to reporters at the DMP media center on Saturday.

Monirul said, “Huge amount of money is being spent behind militancy as law enforcers in recent operations have been able to recover a huge stash of arms and ammunitions from militants. How are they collecting these? They must have to buy these arms. Investigation reports suggest that the finance is supplied to the militancy not only from the local source but also from abroad through hundi.”

In reply to a query, he said, “We have been able to trace some sources of the finance behind the militancy. But it is not yet clear from where the money is coming. Law enforcement agencies are working to find out the real source that is financing the militancy.”
