Staff Correspondent: Today is the 80th birth anniversary of noted writer and journalist Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury.


He is famous not only as a journalist, columnist, author or political analyst; he is also popular as a lyricist for his groundbreaking creation ‘Amar Bhaier Roktey Rangano Ekushey February’, the main theme song commemorating the Language movement in 1952.


Marking the birthday, a program and discussion will be held at Abdul Karim Sahitya Bisharad Seminar Room of Bangla Academy this afternoon.


Noted authors, columnists, poets, intellectuals, journalists, social and cultural activists will greet him at the event.


Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury was born in 1934 in Ulania, Barishal. He is a noted figure in the print media of Bangladesh. His written column against attack on human rights, protest against the state coup, martial law in an attempt to exterminate the democracy, set him in a position of fame and popularity. His eminence in writing mostly based on political analysis always showed the path towards democracy.


Gaffar Chowdhury is one of the few personalities who have been involved in all most all historical events of Bangladesh. His direct participation in democratic movement and reflection of observation in his writing brings extensive professional experience and a concise writing style to his newspaper columns which helped in the restoration of real history of Bangladesh.


His eminence in writing mostly based on political analysis always showed the path towards democracy.


Some of his notable works are ‘Dan Pithe Shawkat’, ‘Chandrodwiper Upakhyan’, ‘Nam Na Jana Bhore’, ‘Nil Jamuna’, ‘Shesh Rajanir Chand’, ‘Polashi Thekey Dhanmondi’, ‘Bastobotar Nirikhey’ and others.


The multitalented personality has received many awards for his immense contributions to journalism and literature. He received Bangla Academy Award, Ekushey Padak, UNESCO Award, Bangabandhu Award, Sadhinota Padak, Manik Mia Padak and others.
