Garment workers block highway for salary in Gazipur

Staff Correspondent, Gazipur: A group of angry garment workers of Gazipur blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway demanding their due salaries.

Sources said that the workers from Nit and Nitex Garment took to the streets in Dekerchala area this morning and blocked the highway demanding half salary of August month.

Workers said that the garment authority paid half salary during last Eid-ul-Azha and promised to pay the rest of amount this morning. But, the owners skipped dates again and again. Besides, 10-12 workers became sick drinking water from the factory on Saturday. 

Following the issues, factory workers started protesting around 10:00am.

Gazipur Metropolitan Police OC Ismail Hossain said more than one thousand of workers took position in the area.
