Gazipur blockade called off, vehicular movement resumes

Staff Correspondent, Gazipur: Vehicular movement on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway has resumed as garment workers ended their blockade at Hotapara in the district after getting assurances from the authorities.

Habib Iskandar, Inspector of Gazipur Industrial Police, confirmed the news.

He said, “The workers of Elegant Group blockaded the highway since 10:00am demanding half of their salary of the current (August) month. They called off their blockade around 4:00pm as the garment authorities assured them to pay advance salary for 10 days on Sunday.”

Sub-Inspector Rafiqul Islam, In-Charge of Hotapara Police Outpost under Joydevpur Police Station, said that a long tailback was created on the highway due to the blockade. Now the situation is easing gradually.
