Goat snatching: BCL leader gets bail at High Court

Staff Correspondent:  The High Court has granted anticipatory bail for four weeks to President of Mohammadpur thana unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Mujahid Azmi Tanna in a case filed for attempting to snatch 212 goats in the capital.

A bench of High Court Division comprising Justice Obaidul Hasan and SM Quddus Jaman granted the bail on Tuesday.

Senior Warrant Officer of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-2 Md Faruk Hossain filed the case against nine BCL leaders for attempting to snatch 212 goats in the capital.

Investigation officer of the case Sajib Gosh said three accused of the case were produced before a Dhaka court and were sent to jail.

According to the statement noted by police, a group of traders were going to a Dhaka’s cattle market from Jesssore and Jhenaidah carrying some 212 goats who were stopped by the suspected BCL leaders in Jahuri Mahalla area of Mohammadpur on 11 August for extortion.

The Chhatra League leaders took the goats including the traders Syful Islam, Babu Sheikh, Sheikh Soleman, Md Nurujjaman, Faruk Bishwas and Masud Mandal down the cattle-laden truck and brought them to a club room.

Tipped of the snatching, a group of RAB-2 spotted immediately and freed them from the hostage situation.
