‘Govt adopts ‘zero tolerance’ policy against drugs’

Staff Correspondent: Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said the incumbent government has adopted ‘zero tolerance’ police against drugs. The narcotics control department, police, BGB, RAB and other law enforcement agencies are working relentlessly to materialise the policy.
The Minister came up with the statement while replying to a written question made my Netrokona-5 lawmaker Waresat Hossain Belal in the parliament session on Tuesday.
Home Minister said 35,112 accused were arrested in 27,340 cases from January to March in 2018. Some 3, 28, 25, 611 pieces of Yaba tablets were seized.
20, 767 accused were also arrested in 15, 333 cases as part of the ongoing anti-drug drive from May to June. Some 26, 59, 807 pieces of Yaba tablets were also seized during the period. Besides, 1, 289 people were also sent to jail for different terms of imprisonment, he added.
He said the government has taken initiatives to set up liaison offices on India-Myanmar border to conduct anti-drug drives along the borders immediately.
