Staff Correspondent: BNP standing committee member Barrister Moudud Ahmed has claimed that the government has increased the popularity of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia by sending her to jail in Zia Orphanage Trust case.
He said this at a gathering organised by Bangladesh Nationalist Cultural Party demanding release of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia at the National Press Club on Friday.
Moudud Ahmed said that the government sent her to jail in a false case, fearing the popularity of BNP chairperson. The Awami League has further increased the popularity of Khaleda Zia by sending her to jail.
He said Zia Orphanage Trust case is a fake case. The BNP chairperson has been convicted unfairly in this case. This is not a criminal case rather than a political motivational case. Khaleda Zia has been sentenced to imprisonment for the purpose of weakening her psychologically.
Moudud said the jail in which Khaleda Zia has been kept is an abandoned prison. The purpose of keeping her here is to break her mind. But the government's efforts will not succeed.
Presided over by President of the organization Humayun Kabir Bepari, the programme was attended, among others, by Dhaka University teacher Dr. Sukomol Barua, BNP leaders Shirin Sultana and Ismail Hossain Bengal.
