Govt shuts all doors-windows of democracy: BNP

Senior Correspondent: Senior Joint Secretary General of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed said the government has shut all the doors and windows of democracy by not allowing the party to hold a rally at Suhrawardy Udyan.

"I, on behalf of BNP, strongly denounce the government's attitude," added Rizvi.

The BNP stalwart came up with the reaction at a press conference at the party's central office in the capital's Nayapaltan on Saturday noon.

BNP boycotted the 10th general election and observe the election day (January 5) as 'Democracy Killing Day'.

As BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia was scheduled to appear before a court on January 5 this year, the party announced to observe the day on January 7 at Suhrawardy Udyan. But police did not allow the party to hold the rally.

Earlier, on January 5 this year, leaders and activists of the party observed the day holding black flags and bringing out black flag processions across the country.
