Govt to award 10 garment factories

Senior Correspondent: The government has decided to award 10 garment factories of the country marking “The Occupational Health and Safety Day”.
Those factories are on top for reputation in labour management and labour-friendly atmosphere will be awarded for the first time.
The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by State Minister for Labour and Employment Mujibul Haque Chunnu on Sunday.
The Minister said, “Each factory will be given a crest. But they will have to submit application with specific form to get it. To be qualified for the award, a factory must be under Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) or Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA). For the factory under BGMEA must have 5,000 labours while BKMEA factory 2,000 workers.”
“The award will be given on test this year. From next year, it will be given under a specific policy,” the minister said.
“President Abdul Hamid will give the award to the factories on April 28 marking the Occupational Health and Safety Day,” he added.
