Green Line bus driver sent to jail

Staff Correspondent: A Dhaka court on Sunday sent Kobir Mia, the driver of a Green Line Paribahan Ltd bus, to jail in a case filed over losing a leg of Russel Sarker, a rent-a-car driver.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Syed passed the order after Shahid Hasan, sub inspector of Jatrabari police station, also the investigation officer of the case, produced the accused before the court, seeking a seven-day remand for interrogation.

The court also directed the investigation officer of the case to submit a probe report on June 29.

Being furious over road sharing, Green Line bus driver Kobir Mia ran the bus over a private car driver’s leg, leaving his limb detached.

Russel Sarker, the 23-year-old rent-a-car driver, was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) with critical injuries, following the horrendous experience on Mayor Mohammad Hanif flyover in old parts of Dhaka around 3:00pm yesterday.

Afterwards, he was shifted to a private hospital for better treatment.

Police said that Russel was moving back to the city, after dropping off passenger in Keraniganj.

A bus of Green Line Paribahan hit Russel’s car on the slope of Hanif Flyover in Dholaipar area of Jatrabari.

Russel stopped the car and asked the bus driver through the window the reason of hitting his vehicle.

At one stage, the bus driver became furious after exchanging heated words and drove the bus over Russel, leaving the latter’s left leg separated from the knee.

However, Shahbagh thana police seized the bus of Green Line Ltd.

Victim’s elder brother Arif Sarkar filed a case in this connection.
