Comilla Correspondent: Commuters are suffering immensely as there has been a severe gridlock on Dhaka-Chattogram highway for two consecutive days.
The long tailback ensued from Feni’s Fatehpur under construction railway overpass since Friday morning, which spread towards Dhaka till Chauddagram of Cumilla and towards Chattogram till Sitakunda.
The gridlock occurred till nearly 100 kilometers on both sides on Saturday.
Though it normally takes around six hours to reach Chattogram from Dhaka, now it needs 12 to 15 hours due to severe gridlock.
Transport fare has also been gone up with the sufferings. Passengers and drivers expressed anger as they cannot enjoy the facilities of four-lane on the highway.
Nazrul Islam, highway Superintendent of Police (SP) of Cumilla region, said the gridlock will continue until the railway overpass is completed at Fatehpur. Besides, the highway also is kept closed for passing 44 trains at the overpass every day.
He, however, hopes the sufferings of tailback will end before the Ramadan.
