'Gunfight' kills youth in Kushtia

Kushtia Correspondent: A youth was killed in a 'gunfight' with police at Pipulbaria area of the district's Daulatpur upazila early Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Miraz Hassan Teni, 26, son of Alam Mandal of Satarparha area of the upazila.

Three policemen were also injured in the incident. Law enforcers also seized a pistol, a magazine and two rounds of bullets from the spot.

Shah Dara Khan, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Daulatpur Police Station, confirmed the news.

He said the miscreants were holding a meeting at Pipulbaria math in the wee hours on Tuesday. On tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive there. Sensing the presence of law enforcers, miscreants fired at them. Police also retaliated to them for self-defence. At one stage, miscreants fled the scene.

Later, police recovered Teni's bullet-hit body from the spot, he added.

He said Teni was accused in several cases filed with different police stations including Daulatpur and Bheramara.
