HC accepts appeal for hearing in grenade attack case

Staff Correspondent: The High Court accepted appeals of convicted accused of the August 21 grenade attack cases for hearing.

The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman passed the order on Sunday.

Assistant Attorney General Yusuf Mahmud Morshed moved for the state during hearing. However, there was no lawyer on behalf of the accused.

In the murder case, BNP vice-chairman Tarique and 18 others were sentenced to life in prison while former state minister for home Lutfozzaman Babar and 18 others were given death penalty on charges of killing through criminal conspiracy on October 10, 2018.

At least 24 people were killed and around 300 injured in the grisly attack on an Awami League rally in the capital’s Bangabandhu Avenue on August 21, 2004. Sheikh Hasina, the then opposition leader in parliament, narrowly escaped the attack with an ear injury.
