HC rule seeks Tk25lakh compensation for pregnant woman

The High Court (HC) asked the authorities concerned to explain why it should not be directed to give Tk 25 lakh in compensation to the woman, who was forced to go under Caesarean section in a hospital in Noakhali.

The bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahsan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader came up with the order on Monday.

The court also issued a notification asking the authorities why action will not be taken against doctors.

Health ministry secretary, home ministry secretary, health decorate director general and 9 others were asked to reply the rule within next 4 weeks.  

Advocate ZR Khan Robin moved for the petitioner while, deputy attorney general barrister ABM Abdullah Al Mahmud Bashar stood for the state.

According to the case statement, a pregnant woman named Rima Sultana Nipa got admitted to a hospital in Noakhali on June 8, 2019. The hospital authority told her that there is no alternative of c-section. On June 9, she gave birth to a baby through cesarean section and got released on June 12. Later, she fall ill again on June 14 and went to the hospital again. But, the hospital did not take proper steps about her treatment then.
