HC seeks report on fire safety measures

Staff Correspondent: The High Court (HC) has directed the authority concern to submit a detail report on fire safety measures and capability of Fire Service and Civil Defence to prevent inferno and disasters.
The director general (DG) of Fire Service and Civil Defence has been asked to submit the report in a month.
Alongside, the court also asked the mayors of Dhaka north and south city corporations, Rajuk chairman and Fire Service DG to submit a report jointly in four months on what measures were kept in the buildings above seven-storey in the capital.
The HC also issued a rule asking authority concern to explain in two weeks why construction of the buildings without sufficient fire safety measures should not be declared illegal.
The HC bench Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed and Justice Md Iqbal Kabir Lytton came up with the order and rule following the petition filed by Gulshan Society Secretary General Barrister Sarwar Siraj Shukla challenging legality of constructing buildings in Dhaka without sufficient fire safety measures.
