‘Hold neutral polls and see voting revolution’

Staff Correspondent, Khulna: BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan has threw a challenge to the government for holding a neutral polls to see voting revolution.

He said for the government, “You are arresting our leaders and activists and torturing. No problem, do continue. But, arrange a neutral and peaceful election and then see the voting revolution in the box.”

The BNP stalwart came up with the comment at a press briefing held at the party office in the city's KD Ghosh road on Friday.

The briefing was arranged over the update of Saturday’s public gathering demanding BNP Chairperson Khaleda’s release.

The public gathering was announced to hold at the Shahid Hadis Park. But Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) imposed ban on political programmes in the area.

Nazrul Islam said, “We were not allowed to bring out procession and public gathering. We were not allowed to chant slogans and place posters. We were facing arrest while distributing leaflets. In such situation, we depend on you (media). Once, media’s independence was snatched away. Ziaur Rahman gave back that. So, reporters are able to give their efforts to save democracy today.”

“One party is seeking votes with government’s money. They are taking government financial support for this and using planes and vehicles.  On the contrary, chief of another party has been confined in jail. Her party leaders and activists are demanding immediate release of her. They are demonstrating for a participative polls to restore democracy. But they are being bared to hold peaceful programme,” he added.
