Staff Correspondent, Sylhet: Sylhet Government Women's College student Khadiza Begum Nargis who was hacked repeatedly by Badrul Alam has expressed satisfaction in the verdict delivered by a Sylhet court on Wednesday.

Khadiza expressed his satisfaction at a reaction made after hearing the verdict on Wednesday noon.

She said, “I am happy with the verdict. I expect no more women like me come under such brutal attack. I want everybody fulfill their cherished dreams. I will try my level best to rebuild my life.”

Khadiza’s uncle Abdul Kuddus who filed the case against Badrul over the incident has also expressed satisfaction with the verdict.

Earlier on the day, a Sylhet court sentenced Badrul, sacked leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) unit, to life-term imprisonment in the case filed for attempting to murder college girl Khadiza Begum Nargis.

On October 3 last year, Khadiza, 23, a student of Sylhet Govt Women’s College, was repeatedly stabbed by Badrul, a fourth-year student of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) and also senior assistant secretary of the BCL unit in SUST on her way home from college.

Later, the students along with locals caught and beat Badrul up and handed him over to police.

Following the attack, Khadiza was initially admitted to Sylhet Osmani Medical College where she had undergone a surgery.

Khadiza was moved to Dhaka following day as her condition deteriorated. Later, she was kept on life support in Dhaka’s Square Hospital.

The gruesome attack was carried out on the campus of Murari Chand College (MC College) where the victim had gone to take part in one of her examinations.

A part of the attack was filmed by presumably a bystander with a mobile phone. The clip went viral.

In the clip, a youth is seen repeatedly hacking a girl lying on the ground. There were some bystanders but no one seemed to have intervened.

Abdul Kuddus, Khadiza's uncle, filed a case with Shahporan Police Station over the incident.
