Staff Correspondent: The president of International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Peter Maurer, will arrive in Bangladesh on Saturday to visit Cox’s Bazar Rohingya camps.

In a press release ICRC Bangladesh office confirmed the matter.

During his three-days long visit, Peter Maurer will hold talks with senior officials and representatives of both countries’ governments.

Earlier on Jun 25, the ICRC chief visited the Rakhine state in Myanmar. He met Myanmar state counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi and president Win Myint during the visit.

Since August of 2017, some 7 lakh Rohingyas fled into Bangladesh from Myanmar’s Rakhine state following persecution by the country’s military force.

Following the Rohingya crisis, ICRC and Bangladesh Red Crescent society are providing food, water, sanitation and overall health supports to the sheltered Rohingyas in Cox’s Bazar. Besides, some programs were also taken in hand to help the local people who were affected by the crisis.
