'Independent Law University a demand of times'

Staff Correspondent: Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain said the establishment of an independent law university in the country is a demand of times.

The Chief Justice made the assertion while addressing an award giving ceremony at Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology in capital's Tejgaon on Saturday.

Eminent lawyer Barrister Rafiq ul Haque was awarded gold medal in the programme.

In the programme, Syed Mahmud Hossain said, "I think establishment of an independent law university for the development of law and justice department is a demand of time."

"I will request to the learned persons and lawyers of the country including Barrister Rafiq ul Haque to establish a completed law university," he said.

Praising the role of Barrister Rafiq ul Haque, he also said, "His role in protecting the image of the judiciary, the separation of judiciary and the establishment of rule of law, is very significant."

Prof Emeritus Anisuzzaman presided over the programme where former secretary and national board of revenue chairman Dr Muhammad Abdul Majid and others spoke in the programme.
