India opens all gates of Teesta Barrage

Water level of Teesta has continued to rise due to heavy rain and onrush water from  upstream. India opened all gates of Teesta Barrage to tackle the water pressure.

Water Development Board’s deputy divisional engineer Abdul Kader confirmed the matter on Saturday (July 11).

He said, river erosion has started in some areas of Lalmonirhat district due to heavy pressure. Innumerable families have become marooned. Tension has increased among the people living in river bank areas due to lack of government shelters.

The water level was 24 centimetres above the danger mark at Dohani Barrage point of Teesta on Saturday (July 11), Engineer Abdul Kader said.
