Indian actress gets obscene calls, videos

Sonu Walia

Desk Report: Indian actress Sonu Walia who had featured in yesteryear blockbuster Khoon Bhari Maang has been bombarded by lewd calls and dirty videos.

The 53-year-old actress said she had been receiving messages from an unknown person for the last few days.

The actess has registered an FIR in Mumbai's Bangur Nagar police station against a person who allegedly harassed her over the phone.

"I don't know how this person obtained my number. At first I thought it was some fan who was calling and messaging me but later the person started sending me obscene messages. The kind of messages that would be intolerable to any woman. There is a saying that if you tolerate injustice then you are party to it. So that's when I decided to approach the police on Friday and they were really helpful," said Sonu Walia.

Walia had warned the unknown person but this did not deter the sender. She said, "The laws are in place to safe guard women. We just have to stop tolerating and step out. I have a faint idea that this person is from Pune and I have given all details that I know of to the police. They were very helpful."

According to Walia's statement to the police, the accused had been calling and messaging using different numbers.

Bangur Nagar Police registered the FIR under section 354 of the Indian Penal Code (i.e Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty). The police have also added section 67 A of the Information Technology act as the caller and messenger had used the phone.

Although the police have started investigating the case, none of the mobile numbers given by Walia are operational at the moment.
