Info minister urges media to verify news before publishing

Staff Correspondent: Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud has urged media to verify information before publishing any news.

The minister said this while addressing a discussion meeting organized by Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote at Press Club on Wednesday.

Hasan Mahmud said, “Setting fire in paddy field, a photo was taken and spread on social media. Even, the footage of fire on Indian paddy field was named Bangladeshi one. This kind of news are being published at media. Doesn’t it create impact on society? So, please publish news after verifying these.”

Terming social media as an unedited platform, he said, “Anyone can express his/her opinion here making video. These kind of speech are creating unrest in society. As a result, the government face criticism in many cases.”

Mentioning various crisis of farmers, the minister also said, the government has already started rice exporting. 

Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote president also former lawmaker Sarah Begum Kabari presided over the function where Prime Minister’s special assistant Barrister Biplab Barua, former food minister Advocate Kamrul Islam, singer SD Rubel and others attended.
