Intern doctors go on indefinite strike

Staff Correspondent, Barisal: Interns at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital went on an indefinite strike demanding security over a clash with the relatives of a patient.
Intern doctors association president Dr Raja Ahmed made came up with the announcement around 11:30am in a press conference on Friday.
However, the intern doctors went on the strike from Thursday night.
Dr Raja Ahmed said a patient named Khadiza, 22, wife of police constable Mohammad Shakil was admitted to the hospital on Thursday noon. The pregnant patient was in critical condition and she was suffering from Eclampsia disease. Later, the patient died under treatment around 7:00pm at Operation Theater.
After her death, the patient’s relatives then vandalised the operation theatre and assaulted three doctors.
Following the incident, intern doctors started strike on Thursday night.
Nahid Hasan, general secretary of Intern Doctors' Association said earlier the doctors including interns, senior doctor were attacked 17 times. Doctors wanted security. But, no fruitful result was seen yet.
Dr Md Abdul Kadir, deputy director of the hospital said it is a matter of great sorrow that such type of incident took place at hospital.
Meeting is underway in this regard, he added.
