Staff Correspondent: About the devastating fire at Banani’s FR Tower, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam said, “There is no time to talk, it’s time to take action.”
The mayor came up with the comment while talking to reporters after visiting the FR Tower on Friday.
Atiqul Islam asked the owners of high-rise buildings in the city to submit their all the documents relating to building safety by 10 days.
“Building owners, especially those of the high-rise ones, must submit all the fire-safety and building-safety clearance certificates to me by 10 days,” he said.
He also said the DNCC will soon issue a notice in this regard.
The mayor said magistrates will conduct a drive and take legal actions against those who will fail to ensure fire and building-safety measures.
He said another drive will be launched soon against illegal establishments. “We’ll show zero tolerance to illegal buildings. Now, we’ll go for actions.”
Atiqul said the probe committee, formed by the DNCC to look into FR Tower fire incident, will submit its report within three working days, and necessary actions will be taken against those will be found responsible.
He warned the owners that they will be held responsible if any accident happens in their buildings for lack of safety measures.
At least 25 people were killed and over 70 others injured in the devastating fire that broke out at FR Towner in city’s Banani area on Thursday.
