JP ministers to step down soon; says Ershad

Staff Correspondent, Rangpur: Jatiya Party (JP) Chairman Hussain Muhammad Ershad, also special envoy to the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, said ministers of his party will step down soon from the cabinet.

He said, "There three members of Jatiya Party in the cabinet. I'm also in the rank of a minister.  We will resign within a few days. It was not fair to include us in the cabinet."

JP Chairman came up with the statement while talking to the reporters at Rangpur circuit house on Friday morning.

He said, "Opposition leader Raushan Ershad delivered a true speech over the matter in the parliament. She said, 'Party images damaged as our people were included in the cabinet.' We were slammed for this. However, sharing cabinet was a political tactic. There are such examples like this in many countries including Germany. But, now we do not want to remain in the cabinet."

About Khaleda's bail, Ershad said, "I was in jail for six years and two months. I could not secure bail though all the cases filed against me were bail able. I was bared to join the parliament despite order of High Court (HC). No leader of the world suffered torture like me. The way I had to face injustice, there is no example in the world."

Ruling out any possibility of making alliance with BNP, Ershad said, "I'm in doubt enough whether BNP will participate in the next general election. It does not matter whether BNP will take part in the election. The election will be acceptable if Awami League and Jatiya Party will participate. Even that, the government is trying to bring BNP. We also think the party (BNP) should participate this time."

"We announced for a conference on March 24. I hope, nearly half million people will attend the programme. We want to show how much strength Jatiya Party earned. We want to go the power alone in the next," he added.
